Über Scheepjes
Scheepjes is a story of dedication that is stronger than time. In 1799, Dirk Steven van Schuppen started out in Veenendaal as a wool comber with 13 helpers - in a town that was reinventing its soul. When the peat pits were exhausted, wool became the new lifeline. The family business grew over generations until it reached its peak in 1962 with 900 employees and a royal predicate. Then came the downfall: insolvency in 1988 and the demolition of the factory in 1989. 22 years of silence where spindles once sang.
But true love never dies. In 2010, the De Bondt family from Tynaarlo revived the Scheepjes legacy - not as nostalgia, but as a promise. The ship in the logo, a ‘Samoereus’ that once transported peat through the Dutch canals, is sailing again: laden with the wisdom of over 200 years of craftsmanship and the certainty that some traditions are too valuable to let them die. Dutch wool history lives on here - each skein a testament to the fact that quality and passion always find a way back.
