Über Atelier Franziska Uhl
Franziska Uhl - a trained artist - doesn't dye wool - she paints with it. In her almost 100-year-old barn between the Oder floodplain landscape and original mixed forests, she creates skeins that are each a work of art in their own right. What began as the journey of a graphic artist and sculptor - from Ghana to Brazil, through highs and lows, even the loss of her Berlin studio in an arson attack - has resulted in her very own language of color.
Her colors do not follow recipes, but the rhythm of the seasons and the poetry of the moment. “Novemberfeld” was created after a dog walk across stubble fields under a rainy sky. “Willow Tit” became yarn after watching the only bird laying down supplies - its greenish plumage with warm shades of gray translated into wool. Up to 15 overdyes by hand transform each skein into a unique piece, because for Franziska, mixing is the order of the day - like colors on a painter's palette.
Since 2015, some of her collections have had Arabic women's names: Asrar (mystery), Azadeh (free thinker), Roja (beautiful dream) - her silent contribution to integration, charging foreign names with beauty. Here you won't find dyed wool, but captured moods, translated emotions, yarn turned art.
Each skein tells the story of an artist who understands: Color gives energy, and true beauty is only created where heart and hand work together.
